In 1977, Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Oil Company had a merger and this necessitated the movement to a bigger office complex, at Falomo shopping complex. The need to have a medical unit to look after staff health as stipulated in the corporation’s constitution arose.

The first Medical officer in charge was Dr. Kayode Shenkoya while his assistant was Dr. Tunde Adedeji.

In the early years of NNPC Medical, we had the following zones:

  • Eastern zone with Port Harcourt as Headquarters.
  • Western zone with Warri as the Headquarters.
  • Northern zone with Kaduna as the Headquarters.
  • Lagos zone with Lagos as Headquarters.
Medical started in the Western House building on Broad street in March 1979. They later moved to the first floor of Falomo office complex in October 1979. Due to series of complaints like congestion Medical was moved to No.99 Awolowo Road, Ikoyi in 1980. Expansion came up in later years.
